2021 AIA National Young Architect Award
The New York Times declared this week one year ago the week our reality broke. Next week marks our one year work-from-home anniversary. For the last 52 weeks, our little team has managed to stay functioning, in business, healthy, and optimistic that the coming year will be one of our best yet. All small business owners can agree, it took a lot of hard work and perseverance (and tears and sleepless nights) to keep everyone employed and the doors open. The photo above is of the guy that put every ounce of effort he could toward this success. With the context of 2020's nearly insurmountable hurdles behind us, we are extra proud to announce that Jeff Guggenheim has been awarded the 2021 AIA Young Architects Award. Proof that you can be in your 40's and still considered young!
The AIA Young Architects Award honors individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and made significant contributions to the architecture profession early in their careers. Guggenheim Architecture would like to thank Curt Wilson, AIA, Hope A. Telford, AIA, Brian Cavanaugh, AIA, and Roderick Ashley, FAIA for supporting Jeff in this award and to the jury who selected him.
__
“I have had the opportunity to meet and work with many firms and members in Portland, and the firm that has impressed me the most is Guggenheim Architecture,” wrote Curtis Wilson, AIA, executive vice president and chief operating officer at AIA Oregon, in a letter nominating Guggenheim for the Young Architect Award. “During my time in this role, Jeff has demonstrated leadership through the Small Firm Exchange where he leads through a philosophy of ‘learning through sharing,’ using stories and examples of his successes and challenges to help others grow.”__
“He has a high regard for the profession and does his utmost to hold himself to the high standards established through AIA licensure,” wrote Hope A. Telford, AIA, of Telford + Brown Studio Architecture in a letter supporting Guggenheim’s nomination. “In addition, his willingness to tackle challenging situations in interesting ways has served as an inspiration to me since we met. With everything he does, Jeff goes above and beyond expectations, pushing the bounds of design, helping the practice of architecture, and contributing greatly with his service.”
